The Client

The goal of the Movember Foundation is to "change the face of men's health.” Movember is a global moustache growing charity event held annually in November to help raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's mental health.

The Brief

The brief for the campaign of 2015 involved developing software that improved the social integration and revitalised the look and feel of the app. New functionality was added to encourage users to move for Movember, allowing people to share their sporting activities to social media.

The Process

The project took 9 months to complete. The jtribe team included iOS developers, Android developers, tester, project director and chief of technology. We collaborated with Movember throughout the project at our OpenHub coworking space. The co-location ensued highest degree of collaboration across the team and Movember. The result is a completely re-designed app for iOS and Android. The apps let Movember participants manage their campaign and connect with other Movember users. Working with Movember is rewarding, as together we develop apps that continue to make a difference.

The Solution

Our team has worked hard to produce the best possible apps for 2015. The innovative new designs for the iOS and Android apps involved new challenges that we developed creative solutions for. Distinguishable features include:

  • ‍Post MOVE updates to your Mo Space and social media
  • Find other Movember members or teams
  • Make a donation to other members or teams
  • Take a photo of your moustache daily and track progress or upload from phone
  • Create stop motion video of epic mo growth and share it with the world
  • Locate events that are happening during Movember
  • Post comments and pictures to user’s Mo Space
  • See who's leading the fundraising with real time leaderboards

The Challenges

Quality. Our new app has been improved in all aspects, with a focus on user experience and social integration to produce the best possible app for the year 2015.

Technology. The login and sign up processes have been designed and developed to further enhance usability of the Movember app.

Custom user interface. We revamped the custom user interface to match the new designs for Movember in 2015. Our ability to do this was a result of our extensive knowledge of the underlying native technology for iOS and Android.

Worlwide. Our app can be used worldwide, supporting many languages and is adaptable to users in different countries.

Social. A newsfeed for displaying user's sporting activities was required for this year's app. You can now share you details of your moves to social media.

Usability. The app is more user-friendly than ever, whilst maintaining the terrific visual designs of the 2015 global Movember campaign.
