jTribe delivered the Australian Open iPad app for the 2011 event on time and within budget. The fun, engaging app was the digital version of the official Australian Open program.

The Brief

The project was to create the first iPad app for the Australian Open event in 2011.

The main theme for the event was the visualisation of data - which shaped the app.

The app should provide Australian Open fans with a rich visual and immersive experience.

The Process

Everyone at jTribe and Ogilvy put in a crazy amount of hours on the Australian Open iPad app. We had 6 weeks to build the app. The effort resulted in a successful iPad app that received a lot of media coverage.

The Australian Open iPad app was developed by jTribe people all around the world. The core team worked from our Melbourne office while others, travelling in Germany, Switzerland and Italy, made invaluable contributions to ensure we delivered an app of the highest quality. It was a great team effort.

The Solution

‍The app aggregated a multitude of ‘live’ information from social media sources and data collected during the event. Match results, videos, attendance numbers, weather conditions and more were collected and displayed in an "infinite canvas".

At the core of the app was the digital version of the official Australian Open program. The user could flick through the brochure using an iBook-style user interface.

The highlight of the app was the signature panel where fans could collect autographs from their favourite players, collate them in a scrapbook and share with friends.
